Why Cedar Over Asphalt or Metal?
Cedar isn't just a look — it performs.
Western Red Cedar carries natural oils that make it resistant to rot, decay, and insects without chemical treatment. It's also naturally insulating, which asphalt and metal aren't, helping regulate temperature through the winter and summer. And unlike asphalt shingles, which typically need replacing every 15-20 years, a well-installed cedar roof can last several decades with basic maintenance.
It's a material that ages instead of just wearing out.
Getting the Fasteners Right
The wrong nail can undo a good cedar installation fast.
Cedar's natural acidity reacts with standard steel fasteners, causing rust streaking and premature corrosion — which weakens the hold and stains the wood around it.
That's why hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel nails, like our Maze fasteners, are the standard for shingle and shake installs.
It's a small detail that makes a big difference in how long the roof or wall actually holds up.

We keep Western Red Cedar shingles in stock in 16", 18" and 24", in both Blue Label and Red Label, along with 18" tapersawn shakes, cedar breather and preferred nails.
Because stock moves with the season, it's worth giving us a call or stopping by to confirm quantities before you plan your start date.
If stock is in the yard, we can have it on site pretty quickly.
If it's a larger roof or a special-order item, we'll give you a realistic timeline up front so you can schedule your crew around it.
Yes, we deliver right to the job site.
There's no minimum order for delivery, though a delivery fee may apply depending on order size and location.
If your site has tight access, a steep driveway, or a specific drop spot in mind, tell us when you order and we'll plan around it.
Yes, we carry factory-assembled hip and ridge units - they're pre-cut and pre-assembled with alternating overlaps, which saves time on the roof and gives you a clean, consistent line along every ridge and hip. If you'd rather build your own on site, we can help you work out how many extra bundles to add to your
Every bundle is hand-checked in our yard before it leaves, so off-grade product is rare. If you do open a bundle that isn't up to grade, set it aside and let us know withing 24 hours. Keep the bundle label with it, because the label tells us which mill and grade it came from and makes the fix quick.
